Here we go! Back to blogging after a pause of (checks notes) 12 years?! My oh my, what is time, even.

I started this up again for one main reason: an outlet for meandering thoughts connected to my professional work. For many years, all things connected to web and graphic design has been hobbies and interests of mine. But since 2021, when this became my full-time professional work, I have seen the need for somewhere to compile my thoughts, findings, musings and questions. Up until now, that has mostly been the DMs of my close friends and coworkers.

About me

I’m Henrik Sonnergård, currently living in Lidköping, Sweden. I’d like to think that I’m curious by nature, which has led to me having more hobbies than I can maintain, and some interesting professional work along the way. While web and graphic design has been a passion for the majority of my life, before I transitioned back to the world of Software Engineering, I worked for more than half a decade with Brake NVH Cycle Driving Testing for Volvo Cars.

Links

I miss this part of the internet. A page where you share your collection of cool hyperlinks! Let’s bring it back!

Web dev

Atomic Design by Brad Frost - This is such a fundamental piece of design methodology. Seriously, you should read it.

The Component Gallery by Iain Bean - I use this daily, pretty much. By far the best resource I’ve found for referencing design system docs and component examples.

Cool stuff

Chromatic by Kevin Feyder - A simple color puzzle game. It has become a part of my morning routine, pretty fun way to spend a minute while I sip my first coffee.

Projects

Filmography

On my YouTube channel, I have some short films and other stuff that I’ve made over the years. I used to have some DJ sets here as well, but you know…recording rights and all that.

Once a year, for more than 20 years by now (yikes), I get together with some friends for a few days, play games and just hang out. The last day, we have a friendly, creative contest on a given topic. You can contribute with whatever you want, be it a song, a poem, knitting, programming, a game… Looking back at the dozens of entries I’ve made, it often ends up being a short film. I’m not sure why, but there is something with the medium that allures me. The mix of sound, music, visuals to create a tension, an emotion, just the right amount of pause for comedic effect… Maybe I am a theatre kid by heart.
